My Story
When a "fun 6-month summer job", turns into a guiding career over 10 years later.
Five days after graduating from college I moved to Juneau, Alaska to work as a sea kayaking guide for the summer. I had always wanted to work in Alaska and I figured there was no better time than after finishing university and before starting a "real job" (or so I thought).
Flash forward to 10 years later and I've guided 3-week backpacking trips on the famous John Muir Trail, Rim2Rim backpacking trips in the Grand Canyon, multi-day kayaking trips through the Norwegian Fjords, trekking trips in Bhutan's Himalayan Mountains, hut to hut trips in Italy's Dolomites and far beyond.

Our guide Nicole was beyond better than expected. She became a pivotal reason why a very tough experience has become such a Life changing event in our lives with absolutely no regrets! If you are thinking about doing this hike just realize going in there is nothing easy about it but if you are fortunate as we were to land Nicole as your guide you will have the Life changing experience you are hoping for.

Nicole was our guide (group of 7)for a 3 night trip and did a marvelous job helping us beginners to manage our backpacks, follow the "leave no trace" guidelines, use bear canisters, perform foot care (hugely important) and our fear of heights. I don't know if it was just because we were exhausted, but the food Nicole cooked for us was delicious and varied- way better than expected. Care was taken for us and the environment. This was my first time kayaking here in Norway, and the experience was absolutely fantastic. Nicole is an excellent guide: professional, friendly, and always making sure everyone was comfortable and enjoying the activity. Incredibly kind and helpful throughout the entire experience.
The scenery is breathtaking, and the whole activity was very well organized. It felt far too short because I enjoyed it so much.

The views were fantastic and Nicole was an awesome guide! She was friendly, shared fun stories as well as facts about different landmarks, and made what was already amazing even more enjoyable while making sure everyone knew what they were doing as well as watching out for and helping everyone stay comfortable. And she took some great photos of everyone so we have them to share!

The John Muir Trail trek was magnificent. Our guide Nicole could not have been better. She was kind, patient, strong, and perhaps most important, encouraging. After a 12 mile, 3,000 foot gain day we’d drop our packs and she’d run to find the best campsite. Perfect. Sweet. Cool. The scenery was spectacular. Transformative trip. Requires serious training.
